Dirt Alley Design - FAQ

When will my print order ship?

Most of my prints are made to order and ship within 2-3 business days. When your item is shipped, you will receive an email notification with a tracking number. Prints are packaged in a clear flap seal envelope with stiff backing board shipped sandwiched in bubble wrap and tissue paper in a roomy box.

All orders ship via USPS. I also offer additional shipping options if you need your order more quickly.

Do you ship internationally?

I offer limited international shipping to most of Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia at a flat rate of $10-18 USD. International orders of $70+ ship for free.

You will be responsible for any applicable taxes or custom fees. Prints can take upwards of 1-3 weeks and occaisionally longer when shipped internationally to arrive.

Please contact me if you are having difficulties placing an international order, or for a shipping quote if your country is not one that I normally ship to!

What is your return policy?

As a one woman shop and solo-preneur, I unfortunately cannot offer returns. However, I want to see you happy with your purchase! lf you have any concerns after receiving your purchase, or if your item is damaged during shipment, please contact me. I am more than happy to work with you so you are happy with your purchase!

What is a pen plotter?

Each generative print is drawn by a robotic drawing machine (otherwise known as a pen plotter). I use an Axidraw pen plotter by Evil Mad Scientist Labs, and a variety of archival pens. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to more than 4+ hours to plot each print depending on the size and complexity of the design.

How do you create the generative designs?

Each generative design is created from a program I wrote in grad school that draws shapes rotating around a central point. The placement of the shapes is determined by mathematical waveforms! From pure math, delicate and beautifully detailed forms emerge reminiscent of fabric, origami, mandalas, flowers, and other beautiful *things*.

Can you create a custom size or color for a generative print?

Feel free to reach out if you have a custom color and/or paper size request! Custom requests will cost extra due to the additional time needed to create a custom print. I may not be able to accommodate all requests, but will certainly try.

I received my print, but the colors look different.

Due to differences in how browsers and monitors render images, and how color can appear depending on ambient light, you may receive an art print where the color looks slightly different from what appeared on your computer screen. I strive to accurately represent a print as much as possible before purchase, but do understand that the print you receive may look slightly different from what appears on your computer screen.

The print I want is out of stock

Unfortunately, most of my prints are offered in limited edition colorways and once I have sold the editions, the prints for that edition are no longer available.

Where can I get a picture frame?

I offer all of my prints in standard sizes for easy framing. If you are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cheap Pete's offers pre-made frames.
